When water infiltrates your home or business, whether due to weather events, natural disasters, appliance malfunctions, and more, FAST ACTION IS KEY. Standing water and moisture can, within 24-48 hours, lead to mold growth and costly structural damage. A full-service restoration company has dispatch teams available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to respond to your call and rush to your side to assess the extent of the damage, start drying you out, and helping with any insurance claim.
So you make the call – what happens next? Water damage is not a common occurrence. It's a situation most homeowners have never experienced, and therefore have no idea what to expect after a call to a restoration team for help.
When you've just found standing water and water damage, the tensions can be rather high. The dispatch team at Diamond G Construction, Inc. will quickly take down your basic information – name, address, loss type, insurance company – and ask some questions to help the water extraction teams gather the equipment they'll need to start getting you back to dry.
Our project manager will walk through the property with you and make an assessment of the source and scope of the water damage. Working with you and your insurance company, he will outline a plan of action, both to get your property and belongings out of danger but also what work will need to be done to restore everything back to normal. With your approval, the Diamond G Construction team will start the initial phase of the water mitigation process.
Where did the water come from? Identifying the source of the water is key so we can either fix the problem (plumbing problem, roof leak, etc.) or make sure the repairs were done successfully. We'll also classify the category of water. Clean water comes from the regular water supply before it is used, for instance. Gray water is water that has been used, like from a sink or a washing machine, and may contain particulates and some materials that could be hazardous. Black water contains sewage, human waste, or toxic chemicals. Each category dictates the protocol for all of the restoration steps to follow.
If there is standing water, our powerful pumps will extract and suck the water out of the property, kind of like bailing out a sinking boat on Lake Tahoe.
Once the bulk of the water has been removed, our team will inventory and document your affected belongings and help you pack up and either store your items in our secure, climate-controlled facility or transport them to our contents cleaning/salvage division.
When the space is cleared out, we'll be able to better see the full extent of the water damage, using moisture meters and moisture detection tools to determine if the water permeated through drywall to soak insulation or seeped under cabinets or basements to the subfloor underneath. Once we have a clear picture of the scope of the damage, we'll follow up with your insurance company so they understand our findings and agree to the full project scope.
Diamond G has an arsenal of heavy-duty, industrial-strength dehumidifiers and fans to blow air across all of the surfaces to remove any traces of moisture. If we need to open up walls to dry out the spaces between studs, we will. Sometimes we are able to dry out carpet without having to remove it. The drying process will usually take a minimum of three days. We'll be doing frequent moisture readings throughout this stage.
Some companies call themselves water damage restoration companies because they own a pump extractor and a few big fans. Diamond G Construction, Inc. is a full-service, turnkey restoration and reconstruction company. We can do it all. After the moisture readings throughout your property are back to safe, normal levels, we'll repair, reconstruct, or replace any damaged structures, like studs, subfloors, drywall, etc. When we're done, your home will have no traces of the water damage, and your contents will be put back where they belong.
During our final walk-through with you after our work is complete, Diamond G will explain everything that was accomplished and why and listen carefully to any concerns or feedback you may have. Since we are a locally owned company who doesn't answer to a big franchise, our focus and biggest goal is your ultimate satisfaction in a job well done, fairly and in a timely manner.
